Confederation of African Football (CAF) yesterday named Yaya Toure of Cote d'Ivoire the African Player of the Year 2012 at a colourful ceremony in Accra, Ghana. Yaya Toure has been voted African Player of the Year for the second time running. The 29 year old Man City player, who aslo won it last year, was crowned yesterday at a glamorous Glo-CAF Awards Gala.
The Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder beat his countryman Didier Drogba into second place with Cameroon's Alex Song, of Barcelona, in third.He joined the Senegal and Leeds United forward El Hadji Diouf on two victories although he has some way to go to eclipse the Cameroonian Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto'o, who has won four titles.
